The Director, Federal Markets will be responsible for the strategic planning and tactical implementation of Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ objectives within the Federal Market Channel.  The Director, Federal Markets is also responsible for gaining formulary positions and implementing pull-through strategies for all Valeant Pharmaceuticals products within government accounts at the Headquarter Level within Government e.g. VA Strategic Health Group Pharmacy Benefits Manager (VA SHG PBM); Department of Defense Pharmacoeconomic Center (PEC).  

Responsibilities

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for assigned accounts
  • Develop and implement pull-through programs to increase sales/prescriptions of Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ products
  • Develop Partnerships with key decision makers 
  • Negotiate contracts, agreements, and Blanket Purchase Agreements with Executive Level Management within assigned accounts
  • Maximize financial return within assigned accounts
  • Represent Valeant Pharmaceuticals at Industry Functions and act as company representative at these functions
  • Manage relationship with Valeant Pharmaceuticals RSM/DSM and other members of management team
  • Perform related duties as assigned
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures

 

Dimensions

  • Responsible for professional, first line impression of company as representative with government agencies such as:  Veteran Affairs National Acquisition Center, VA Medical Centers (VA NAC); VA Strategic Health Group Pharmacy Benefit Management (VA SHG PBM) and VISN Formulary Leaders/VISN Pharmacy Benefit Managers; the Department of Defense including the PharmacoEconomic Center (PEC), Military Treatment Facilities (MTF), Various Medical Commands worldwide.  Additional agencies include Public Health Service & Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Disaster Medical System (MDMS). 
  • Internal Contacts:  Daily interaction with Vice President, Managed Markets and other members of senior management team.  Regular contact with DSM/RSMs and Territory Managers in the field. 
  • External Contacts:  Daily contact with external customers.

 

Latitude

  • This position requires the ability to act independently and to take initiative with minimal supervision from the Senior Director, Federal Channel. 
  • Advise Senior Director, Market Access of work schedule, priorities, obstacles, issues and of planned and unplanned absences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in sales/marketing, or related field.
  • At least eight to ten (8-10) years of progressive responsibility in pharmaceutical sales/marketing industry.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, organizational and workload planning skills.  Must be motivated and able to work alone.  Computer skills- Excel, Word, PowerPoint.  Strong public speaking skills and presentation skills.  Ability to travel overnight 70% of the time with some weekend travel.  Ability to keep up with current business practices within the industry (retail/mco/gov’t.).  Strong communication skills, both orally and written.  Ability to prepare and administer budgets.
